Privacy Policy

1. What we collect

  • Account info: Name, email, city, phone (optional).
  • Profile info: Bio, WhatsApp number, avatar color, verification documents (Aadhaar card + photo).
  • Task info: Task title, description, audio notes, tags, offer amount, location, deadline.
  • Chat messages: All in-app messages, including attachments (images, PDFs). Recorded for safety.
  • Usage data: Browser type, device info, pages visited (anonymized).
  • Payment records: If you pay a platform fee or subscribe, we store the transaction outcome (amount, status, date, Razorpay's reference IDs) — never your full card number, UPI PIN, or bank credentials. Those are entered directly into our payment partner Razorpay's own checkout, which we never see.
  • Push notification token: If you allow notifications in the Android app, a device token (via Firebase Cloud Messaging) so we can deliver them — not your location or device contents.

2. How we use your data

  • • To connect you with other users for tasks and chats.
  • • To show ratings, reviews, and verified badges on your profile.
  • • To send you notifications about tasks, messages, and ratings.
  • • To process the platform fee and Unlimited subscription, and to remind you before each renewal.
  • • To prevent fraud, abuse, and illegal activity on the platform.
  • • To comply with legal obligations and law enforcement requests.

We never sell your data to third parties. We do not show targeted ads.

3. What is public

The following is visible to anyone who views your profile:

  • • Name, avatar color, verified badge, bio, city.
  • • Ratings as Poster and as Helper (with count).
  • • Public reviews you received.
  • • Completed tasks (title, category, city, offer amount — not chat content).
  • WhatsApp / email only if you opt in from your profile settings.
  • Sahaaya Experts: if you list yourself as an Expert, your listing (headline, bio, category, city, price note) is public, under a nickname by default — same as the rest of the app. A separate, per-listing toggle lets you show your real name, email, and/or phone number instead; nothing is revealed beyond what you turn on.

4. Verification documents

Your Aadhaar card and selfie photo are stored securely and never shown publicly. Only the green verified badge appears on your profile. Documents are used solely for verification purposes and may be shared with law enforcement if legally required. See Data retention below for how long we keep them.

5. Chat recording

All in-app chats are recorded. This is a safety feature — recorded chats deter fraud and provide evidence in case of disputes. Phone numbers and emails in chat are blurred until clicked, to encourage users to keep conversations in-app. Chats may be shared with law enforcement in case of fraud or illegal activity.

Chats are not kept forever. While a task is still open or in progress, its chat stays. Once the task is completed or cancelled, the chat is kept for 1 month and then permanently deleted. If you have a complaint or dispute about a task, raise it with us within that month — once the messages are deleted we cannot recover them, and we will have nothing to investigate with.

6. Data retention

  • Chats: kept for 1 month after a task is completed or cancelled, then deleted.
  • ID proof and verification photos: retained securely — kept for fraud prevention, dispute handling and re-verification, and never shown publicly. This continues even if you later delete your account (see below); we never delete verification documents.
  • Accounts: we don't delete accounts for inactivity. Your account stays exactly as you left it, however long you're away, unless you delete it yourself.
  • If you delete your account: your name, email, phone, WhatsApp, bio and profile photo are removed straight away and replaced with an anonymous placeholder. Your submitted ID proof and verification photos are not deleted — we keep them on file, tied to your (now anonymous) account, so that someone can't defraud another user and then delete their account to erase the evidence. They are never shown publicly either way.
  • What survives: tasks, ratings and reviews stay, with your name removed. They're also the other person's history, and deleting them would erase ratings other people earned.
  • Payment records: kept after a fee or subscription payment, and after account deletion, as required for accounting and tax purposes.

7. Your rights

  • Access: You can view your data from your profile and dashboard.
  • Edit: You can edit your bio, city, and contact visibility anytime.
  • Delete: You can delete your account. Your personal details are removed; past tasks and ratings remain with your name taken off; verification documents (if any) are retained for fraud prevention — see Data retention above.
  • Opt out: You can hide WhatsApp/email from public profile.

8. Third parties we work with

We use a small number of trusted service providers to run Sahaaya, each only for the specific job below. We don't sell your data to any of them, and none of them may use it for their own advertising.

  • Razorpay — processes the platform fee and Unlimited subscription payments. Your card/UPI/bank details go directly to them, not through our servers.
  • Google — if you choose “Sign in with Google,” they confirm your identity to us; we don't receive your Google password.
  • SendGrid — delivers transactional emails (task updates, payment reminders, verification).
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging — delivers push notifications to the Android app.
  • An AI provider — powers Saathi, the in-app help assistant; messages you send it are sent to that provider to generate a reply.
  • Vercel Analytics & Speed Insights — cookieless, anonymized page-view and performance data (which pages load, how fast) so we can find and fix slow or broken pages. It does not identify you and isn't used for advertising.
  • YouTube — the How it Works page can embed short YouTube videos via its privacy-enhanced youtube-nocookie.com mode, which sets no cookies until you press play. Playing one hands that video session to YouTube/Google under their own privacy policy.

9. Cookies & local storage

Sahaaya uses one session cookie (sahaaya_session) to keep you logged in — that's it; there are no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, so there's nothing here that needs your consent beyond using the app itself. A few small, functional items live in your browser's local storage too: an in-progress task draft so you don't lose it if you navigate away, a remembered referral code, whether you've seen the app tour, and your last-picked city. None of this is shared with anyone or used to track you elsewhere. Your location (if you grant permission) is used only to filter nearby tasks — it is not stored on our servers. Full detail: .

10. Children's privacy

Sahaaya is for users 18 years and older. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it immediately.

11. Contact

For privacy questions or data requests, email privacy@sahaaya.club or use the Contact Us page. We respond within 7 days.
